About Jennifer

Jennifer Tantia, PhD is an author, lecturer, and a somatic psychotherapist licensed in New York State. A former professional dancer and aerial artist, Dr. Tantia has been involved in teaching the psychological applications of embodied awareness for over twenty years. She attained a Master’s degree in Dance/Movement Therapy, and holds a doctorate in Clinical Psychology, specializing in Somatic Psychology. She was a pioneer in bringing dance/movement therapy to patients in psychiatric emergency rooms in New York City.

As an author, Dr. Tantia has published over twenty peer-reviewed articles on somatic psychology and was awarded a Marion Chase Foundation Grant award for her latest book, The Art and Science of Embodied Research Design. As a teacher and lecturer, she has taught at several universities throughout the US,

being an invited guest speaker at the National Endowment of the Arts, the former vice president’s Arts in Healthcare Research Convention, Stuyvesant High School and School of Visual Arts. Dr. Tantia has trained therapists in somatic psychotherapy throughout the globe, including Germany, Korea, Scotland and Australia. Currently, she has joined the doctoral faculty of the Somatic Psychology department at California Institute of Integral Psychology (CIIS), and is a meditation and dharma teacher through Tibet House in New York City.

Dr. Tantia currently focuses her treatment for clients suffering from anxiety, depression, as well as helping improve relationships, and especially those seeking to gain greater insight into their fully embodied spiritual potential.
